Google announces first cohort of start-ups under its news initiative programme in India

The first batch of 10 digital news start-ups includes investigative and broadcast news outlets, local news organizations and data platforms.

In June 2016, Google News Initiative launched the Google News Startup Lab, a 16-week program that aims to support India's next generation of news startups.

Through the Google News Initiative, the company aims to help news publishers accelerate their digital transformation efforts. The program is free to all publishers.

The ten digital news start-ups selected by Google include Behan Box, Bisbo, East Mojo, Headline Network, Suno India, The Bridge, and The Probe.
